Free Desktop search software for Dennis Kennedy Blog subscribers

I am a big fan of Dennis Kennedy and his blog.  I personally had the pleasure of meeting Dennis at the American Bar Association Tech Show in April of 2006.  Dennis gave several presentations about different aspects of technology including advice about how to set up a blog and a podcast.  He really turned me on to really cool idea.  Anyway, Dennis is also admired by the the publishers of X1, a desktop search software utility.  They have given Dennis 50 free licenses to give away to his readers.  Once they are gone, thats it.  You will have to purchase a license.  If Dennis recommends it, it must be good.  Check it out and become a subscriber to Dennis' blog, too.

Chicago to hire ex cons as debt collectors

The Chicago Sun Times reports that it is going to hire ex cons, fresh from the big house to collect debts for the city.  I don't know how you feel about it, but I think its a great idea.  I am all for giving someone a fresh start and a break.  Besides, municipalities are exempt from the strictures of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.  Thus, if the collector/convict gets a little too rough with the consumer, too bad.  The consumer can't do anything about it because he is a debtor.  Besides, if the consumer/debtor complains, he should remember that the convict/collector in all likelihood, has the debtor's home address right in front of him....do you suppose that this was an intended benefit?

Illinois Attorney General Pursues Collection Agency

The Illinois Attorney General has filed a lawsuit against a very aggressive collection agency.    Several debtors complained that they were unfairly pressured into making payments.  While there are a number of very fine and reputable collection agencies, there are always a few in the bunch that taint the reputation of the industry and its members.  No one should have to tell a collector to refrain from foul language and making idle threats such as intimating that a lawsuit would be filed on a debt that is 20 years old.  I guess that is why we have the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

no...its better to receiver from the Receiver

In the last few months, I have drafted dozens and dozens of Motions for a Receiver over debtors who have failed to satisfy the judgments that I have obtained against them.  This effort has been an inordinate success.  Indeed, just last week, I obtained a receiver over a debtor, that I will call Mr. X.  It turns out that Mr. X has several accounts at a well known brokerage house.  Now that I have a receiver appointed over Mr. X, its a simple matter of having the receiver take the funds out of Mr. X's accounts to satisfy the $200,000 that he owes to my client.

I have also found that having a receiver, in many instances, is enough to convince a debtor to pay a judgment voluntarily.

I have been asking the various courts to appoint Franklin Gettleson, who is a well respected attorney and a certified public accountant.  The courts, without hesitation, have all been agreeable.  I highly recommend this collection technique.  Its effective and will get your money collected.
